Best Way to pick up a girl at the gym?

Many people have told me that the gym is a bad place to try to even attempt to pick up girls, but i’m at the gym daily, and im on the road to a career in exercise, so gym time is pretty much a chunk of my time each day, that being said, i’ve made lots of contacts, friends, and acquaintances there.
Sure i’ve seen lots of attractive girls at the gym, but there is this one girl who comes in occasionally that i am extremely attracted to on a very personal level. Im sure people can relate to what im saying. I just feel this almost magical pull towards this girl, and find her extremely attractive, even though others may not. Just seems to be a lot of chemistry there.
That being said, we do not know each other, we do not know any friends of each other, and im having an extremely difficult time trying to find a way to break the ice, without looking like a fool, especially since its going to be in a public setting. So far, an ideal scenario to go and talk to her hasnt arisen, so im wondering if anyone can give me some good tips on how i can start to get to know her. I understand ill have to proceed slowly, im not really looking for a "poof, lets go out…ok" The best route will be getting to know her slowly at the gym, and talking more, then eventually down the road asking her out and so on and so forth. The question though, whats a good way to start.
also, please no common sense answers, like "talk to her" NO SHIT, im wondering a good way to talk to her, or a good topic to start conversation on, etc. etc.

When there’s only one person around in a situation, they’re much more likely to lend assistance to people in need, whether it’s to help pick up something they’re dropped or something more important like warn them they’re about to step into traffic, etc.
When there’s a group of people, though, no one acts. They all expect someone else will do it, so no one volunteers or pauses.
This is honestly a chilling video to watch. I don’t have kids but it catches my breath when the two men catch on that something’s going on and without any verbal communication between them, only similar body language (ie their mutual movement in that direction) it’s amazing to me that, while they’re both intently watching the man they are approaching, there is a single second when they Both launch into action, again without communicating anything verbally, but something triggers the same response from both men. How fascinating! It reminds me of wild lions in Africa who are following their prey but something simultaneously all animals involved and they leap to action.
I’m teaching a Social Psychology class right now and am really getting intrigued by the idea of how we send and receive communication without speaking. What is it about that situation that influenced those men though others around them didn’t bother? And what was it in that single second where they both jump into a run? Was it that the man let the girl’s arm go and started to run off himself? It’s amazing to me.
See what you think? I showed this to a fellow teacher who has two daughters. It’s scary to think that people would pass. The girl int his video was doing everything right – yelling over and over “You’re not my dad! Someone help me!” It didn’t do her any good, did it?

What do you think of my pick-up idea for this girl at a grocery store?

I just saw this beautiful girl in the grocery store just now. We made eye contact about 2-3 times. I’ve never tried to pick-up a girl before, and I’m not a creep. I’m a normal 20 year-old athletic guy. She looked about 20 too.
So I walk up to her and say:
"Hi, I don’t normally do this, but thing is, I have an extra ticket to go see coldplay tomorrow and I would love for you to join me there. If you don’t want to come, no worries. But if you do, I’d really like that."
So nice nice? Should I go back and see if she’s still there? haha

As a girl, I love it. Guys never seem to just be up front, and I love that you didn’t use some lame overused pick up line. You gave her an out, so she doesn’t feel too pressured and you offered her a ticket to coldplay. Who doesn’t like coldplay? Whether she says yes or no, I think you did well.
